Both at a national and local level, binge drinking is more prevalent among males, particularly those age 18 to 39. Adults in higher income groups are more likely to binge drink than those in other income groups. The 2005 rate is comparable to the rates for the U.S. (16.3) and Colorado (16.2) for the same year.

The rate is significantly higher than that in 1994. Men--especially those age 18 to 39--are more likely to be chronic drinkers. The rates have been greater for those in lowest income groups. Colorado (5.1%) and U.S. (4.9%) rates were comparable to Mesa County in 2005.
